A cool morning in September, I got ready just like any other normal work day, went to work sorting mail. I remember what I wore that day — jeans, white tennis shoes, shirt and had my hair in a pony tail. Five inner office envelopes were in my left hand as my boss brought out a little television from his office and said, “yall stop what your doing and come see this”. I clutched those inner office envelopes tightly too my chest and stood motionless as the second plane hit the second tower. I walked to the loading dock and looked out at the University of Southern Mississippi campus and thought, “are we next?”.

The population not yet created would never know the freedoms we once enjoyed as Americans before the government, in an effort to “keep us safe”, took away forever. No longer could kids go to the airport just to watch the planes come in for landing and take off again — TSA was created. Year after year freedoms are taken away to the point now the government is trying to tell us what we can and cannot do with our individual bodies that belong to God.

Those 20 years old and younger will only know the history of 9-11. Our nation is still good and people are still good. I choose to believe God gets the final say and judgement on the evil is coming. Today I think about those who missed their flight — who are still alive, those who took a different driving or walking path route in New York City on 9/11/2001 and are alive today. I pray for those who grieve today because their family member never made it back home.

May God bless America!
